Volunteer Opportunity – Grant Research


NBIS seeks highly motivated professionals and students with skills and experience to bring to the advancement of our programs and organization. Work with NBIS executive directors and leadership team to create a strong and diverse fundraising foundation for NBIS’ programs. This is an ideal opportunity for a person with grant research and writing experience to deepen your expertise while advancing regional business leadership for sustainability.

Responsibilities include foundation research and grant writing, and developing and implementing corporate sponsorship programs programs.


  • Excellent communications and writing skills emphasizing grant writing and promotional communications;
  • Knowledge of sustainable business and corporate responsibility innovations and practices;
  • Project management skills;
  • Previous non-profit fundraising experience highly desirable.

Time Commitment and Compensation:

All volunteers are rewarded through the mentorship, training and connections they receive during their time with us. Working alongside our Executive Directors and Board members, volunteers benefit from our reputation and network as we engage a wide community of businesses, professionals and partners.

Additionally, for volunteers interested in making a more significant time commitment to NBIS, we offer a complimentary 1-year, Individual-level membership. Individual memberships include discounts on all our events such as our Eco-Hours and Breakthrough Sustainability Seminars, access to the NBIS network of contacts and resources and a personal interest in your goals. (Minimum commitment is 4 hours/week for a duration of 3 months or more.)

Finally, internship credit is available for current students.
