Washington State Correctional Industries produces custom furniture, uniforms and other products for sale to state-funded organizations as a way to provide jobs and skill training for the state’s incarcerated offenders. Job skills improve offenders’ chances for post-sentence employment, which greatly reduces their likelihood of returning to crime. Offenders’ wages reduce prisons’ reliance on tax dollars by paying the costs of incarceration and restitution to victims. In recent years, CI has placed considerable emphasis on environmentally friendly products and sustainable practices, which has opened many new opportunities to provide new products and, subsequently, created additional jobs and training options. Environmentally-focused changes have also reduced landfill-destined waste and saved money for CI and the state prison system.

Carol Bailey conceived of practicing family law in a way we now call Integrative Family Law. During the many years she served as a Guardian ad Litem for children in difficult family law cases she observed how often the legal process itself was the cause of needless destruction of significant relationships important to the well being of both the parents and the children. The primary relationship adversely affected by the legal proceedings was that of the parents of the children, soon to be ex-spouses or ex-partners. Many times, along with the deterioration of trust and ability to work cooperatively over the lives of their children, the parents saw their relationships with their in-laws, friends and larger social circle begin to disintegrate to the detriment of their long term well being and that of their children. This result need not be the case.

Have you ever wanted to cook Indian food but were too intimidated by the long list of spices to try? Or were you put off by having to buy bags of spices when you only needed a couple of teaspoons?
At Veena’s Market, we’re all about bringing exotic variety to your home cooking and making it easy to cook authentic, fresh and
healthy Indian food. We buy fresh, whole spices and hand craft each blend in small quantities. Once the blends are made, we package them right away to keep them as fresh as possible. Roughly 85% of our spices are organic and we continue to search for fair trade sources for all our spices.
Ethical sourcing is also very important to us. True Basmati rice can only be grown in the foothills of the Himalayas. We support the livelihoods of Himalayan rice farmers by buying certified Basmati rice.
We love the magic that happens when families and friends get together to cook and eat. Enjoy!
