Like a growing number of the population, founder James Morse is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and has been since he was a child. His allergy is so sensitive that he is unable to try most bakery products—even the smallest amount of residual nut can send him to the hospital. Most of the reactions suffered have been due to inadvertently touching some peanut or nut residue and then touching his mouth or eating something by hand like a bagel or slice of pizza. The point of contamination may have been as unthreatening as a doorknob that had recently been touched by someone who had eaten peanuts.
To improve their commitment to selling “Nut Safe” products, Little Rae’s Bakery eliminated all peanuts and tree nuts from their products and became a Nut Free facility in July of 2008.
Doing this provided a safe option for those who currently go without baked goods. Their products are welcomed not only by those with nut allergies, but also those who want to bring goodies to groups or events where just one person might have a nut allergy (increasingly common in schools).
They employ the same high standards for our products and service but without the threat of nuts ruining someone’s day or possibly posing a life-threatening risk. Their new policies for operating a nut-free bakery include allergen-free statements from all their ingredient vendors, and a “No Nuts Allowed” policy in their facility for both employees and visitors.
The bakery uses 100% natural ingredients and locally sources all that it can. They provide:
