Member Profile: Central Physical Therapy

Central Physical Therapy and Fitness is a value-driven, locally-owned, neighborhood outpatient clinic providing individualized physical therapy care and fitness consultation in Seattle, WA. Our goal is to serve as a neighborhood resource for both community members and health care providers.
Jutta Schneider, MSPT and Deb Schaack, Business Manager, founded the clinic in 2002 with the hope of creating a business that represented both our personal and professional values. Using the following beliefs as a guide, we formed Central Physical Therapy and Fitness:
- Health care is best provided in a caring environment, with a focus on the individual. In spite of many corporate efforts to the contrary, health care is not a commodity.
- People should have equal access to health care. Treat all people with respect.
- Locally-owned businesses, including healthcare providers, are a crucial aspect of our local economy. Do business with other local businesses. It’s good for the community.
- The best business practice supports a ‘triple bottom line’: people, planet, & profits. Value all resources including people, environmental, and financial resources. Don’t waste them.
Today, we have a thriving physical therapy and fitness consultation practice on Capitol Hill, with plans for expansion. We’re most proud of the relationships we’ve developed with patients/clients that now consider us “their family physical therapy clinic” and how we continue to grow our business in a way that is true to our values.

Patients at our clinic can expect to have a licensed physical therapist work with them in locating the source(s) of their pain and dysfunction through a thorough physical therapy evaluation. A treatment plan is then developed specific to the individual problem, and we begin to restore flexibility & strength and to ease discomfort.
Even before their evaluation, the patient can expect to be greeted by a friendly front office person, who (among many other duties) will do their best to answer any of the patient’s questions about their insurance benefits – no small feat, given the seemingly exponential growth in types of insurance coverage.
Our goal is that our patients experience our healthcare philosophy through their treatment:
- Healthcare and your environment are interdependent.
- Healthcare is a partnership between patient and provider.
- Providers have a responsibility to remain current in their profession, through continuing education and ongoing research.
- Individuals have a responsibility to participate in their healing.
- Education is a key component of the healthcare process, providing information needed to minimize or prevent recurrence.
